The Islamic Republic of Iran, incapable to govern the country
and unable to curb the activities of women for freedom and
equality has as always resorted to violence including long term
imprisonment, torture, and issuing death sentences. Currently,
a dozen of women are in custody on false charges and given
long prisonsentences. The first branch of the revolutionary
court in Isfahan has sentenced 10 Baha\u2019i women to a combined
90 years imprisonment. They have also been forced to pay
fines amounting millions of Tomans.
Since 2010, some 200 women have been executed on various
charges. Recently, three women, Varisheh Moradi, Pakhshan
Azizi and Sharifeh Mohammadi have been issued death
sentences on the basis of an Archaic judgement called
\u2018insurrection \u2018 by the judiciary system.
Despite all the pressures, women prisoners have continued to
uphold the \u2018Woman-Life-Freedom\u2019 movement. Through hunger
strikes, issuing statements, collective appeals and sit-ins within
prison walls, they make their voices heard beyond prison gates.
One of these prisoners, Ms Nargess Mansouri, who is one the
14 signatories of the statement which called for the Supreme
Leader\u2019s resignation a few years ago, along with a number of
other women have started a sit-in strike on the courtyard of the
prison since 22 September, 2024. Her demand is the release of
all political and ideological prisoners, especially the juvenile and
the elderly detainees. Consequently, she has been denied
visits and according to a relative her life is in danger.
Another prisoner, Varisheh Moradi has began an unlimited
hunger strike since10 October, 2024. Although she has already
received a death sentence, her demands are a stop to the
rising number of executions and against the imposition of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
prolonged state of suspense and deprivation upon her in
prison. As a result of the hunger strike, she has lost dramatic
weight, low blood pressure, migraine and joint and back pains.
Nargess Mohamadi, the symbol of Women\u2019s resistance in the
fight for women and human rights, and the Noble Prize winner
of 2023 is suffering from a number of serious illnesses,
including heart and lung issues and a suspicious mass in her
breast which all require urgent attention. Prison authorities
have disclaimed responsibility, stating that decisions about her
health care are made outside the prison.
We urge all human rights organisations and Women\u2019s rights
groups and activists to amplify the voices of Nargess Mansouri,
Varisheh Moradi, Pakhshan Azizi, Parivash Moslemi, the ten
Baha\u2019i women and Nargess Mohammadi and all other women
prisoners in the Iranian prisons. The Islamic Republic of Iran
shows no adherence to moral standards or human rights to its
opponents.
We express our deep concern for the health of imprisoned
women and demand the release of all political prisoners.
Let us not abandon our brave sisters who are fighting for
freedom and democracy in Iran.
