On Saturday, June 22, 2024, a young woman named Neda Amiri was killed by her ex-
husband with a handgun at her workplace, an audiology clinic, in Khorramabad, the
capital of Lorestan province.
According to a source familiar with the situation, speaking to the Stop \u201chonor\u201d Killings
Campaign, Neda Amiri worked at the audiology clinic. The source added, “Neda was a
hardworking, kind, and caring and quiet woman. Before separating from her husband,
she had been subjected to violence multiple times. Her husband was a violent,
domineering, and suspicious man. After much effort, Neda succeeded in getting a
divorce and had started a new life, but her ex-husband continued to harass her until this
tragic incident occurred.”
The 46-year-old perpetrator was arrested by military forces. According to Mohammad
Malekshahi, the deputy commander of Khorramabad County’s police force, “Two
handguns used in the crime were recovered, and it was confirmed that the suspect was
the victim’s ex-husband. He cited previous family disputes as the motive for this crime.”
State-controlled or government-aligned media describe the motive for the killing as
“family disputes,” framing these killings as purely private matters. However, the
phenomenon of “honor killings” and femicide is rooted in beliefs instilled by the
governmental apparatus that teach male superiority over women. These beliefs
