On Saturday, July 6, 2024, a young woman named Marzieh Gholampour, 29 years old
and a resident of Bojnurd, was murdered with a handgun by her husband in front of her
young child due to “honor” motives.
According to a source close to the family, “Marzieh was constantly threatened and
humiliated by her husband and was at her wits’ end, which is why she filed for divorce.”
After filing for divorce, Marzieh was killed in front of her parents’ house and in the
presence of her young child. Colonel Rostegar mentioned the discovery of a handgun
from the suspect’s hideout and noted that the murderer confessed to killing his 29-year-
old wife in the initial interrogations, citing “previous family disputes” as the motive.
The term “family dispute,” used by media close to the Islamic Republic of Iran and
government officials, is essentially a code for “honor killings,” employed to shield
misogynistic laws from criticism.
Due to discriminatory laws against women and the incorrect teachings instilled in men
by the Islamic Republic, men perceive divorce as an exclusive right, believing they can
divorce their wives whenever they wish. In some regions, including Kurdistan, there is
