On Tuesday, April 2, Farshad Azkat from Marivan, residing in Paveh, located in the
northern part of Kermanshah province in western Iran, caused the drowning and death
of his pregnant wife and two-year-old child by pushing their car off a slope into the
waters of Darian Dam in Paveh.
According to the Hengaw Organization, on April 2, 2024, Farshad Azkat staged an
accident to kill his 36-year-old wife, Bayan Amiri, who was seven months pregnant,
along with their two-year-old child.
The Hengaw report states that after staging a false narrative of the accident on April 2,
2024, the man who killed his seven-month-old unborn child, his two-year-old child, and
his 36-year-old wife, Bayan Amiri, was arrested by the police.
The report further mentions that, according to a “source close to Bayan Amiri’s family,”
after the killing of Bayan Amiri and her two children was revealed, her mother, Sadri
Sharifi, who was from the Shahou district of Ravansar county, suffered a heart attack
and passed away upon hearing the news.
Farshad Azkat, the killer of his wife and children, claimed that he committed the crime
due to his child’s illness and marital disputes. The increasing number of women and
children killed by family men in the Islamic Republic of Iran is a result of misogynistic
policies that grant fathers and husbands ownership over the bodies and lives of women
and children. Misogynistic laws, incorrect education, and the propagation of gender
stereotypes work together to enable men to commit such crimes and often avoid
