Zahra Shahbazi, 28, Killed by Her Husband in Ilam.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Zahra Shahbazi, a 28-year-old woman, was killed by her
husband in one of the neighborhoods of Ilam, the capital of Ilam Province. The killing
occurred in front of her 14-year-old child, with her husband shooting her to death.
Zahra Shahbazi was a victim of child marriage and forced marriage.
At the age of 14, she became the wife of an 18-year-old boy. Both were still children
themselves when they became parents. Zahra endured a series of violent experiences
imposed on her, rooted in misogynistic laws and cultural norms perpetuated and
reproduced daily by the Islamic Republic.
Zahra\u2019s 32-year-old husband fled the scene after committing the crime and has not
been arrested as of the time of this report.
In the past 10 months, at least 10 women in Ilam have been killed by male family
