On December 14, 2024, the disappearance of a young woman was reported to the
Bardaskan prosecutor’s office. Since no trace of the missing woman was found, it was
suspected that a crime had occurred. The matter was assigned to the Criminal
Investigation Police for special investigation.
According to Tasnim News Agency and statements from the Bardaskan prosecutor (a
town in the southwestern part of Khorasan Razavi Province), inconsistencies in the
husband’s statements, along with evidence and footage from security cameras, led to
his arrest as a suspect 24 days later, on January 9, 2025. Under police interrogation,
the husband ultimately confessed to killing his wife using a rope. Following his shocking
confession, the victim\u2019s body was discovered buried behind the suspect’s shop.
As is often the case, the motive for this killing was attributed to “family disputes.” News
reports did not disclose the identities of the victim or the perpetrator.
The Islamic government frequently downplays the killing of women as “family disputes”
to avoid acknowledging the systemic nature of violence against women. This tactic
allows the regime to evade accountability for the discriminatory and misogynistic nature
of its laws and policies. By framing these crimes as private or familial matters, the
government seeks to divert public attention from the structural and cultural failures that
fail to protect women’s rights and obscure the social and political roots of such violence.
This approach also limits questioning of the government\u2019s role in fostering “honor
killings,” promoting a culture of violence, and suppressing women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
