On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, a woman named Nadia Balouchi was murdered by her
brother using a firearm in Nikshahr, a city in Sistan and Baluchestan province. The
reported motive behind the murder was Nadia’s recent release from prison after being
accused of killing her husband.
Nadia Balouchi, from the village of Zahak-e Bala in Nikshahr, was shot and killed by her
38-year-old brother, identified as A. Balouchi.
According to Hengaw, citing the Hal Vash news outlet: \u201cNadia had been arrested
several years ago for allegedly killing her husband. After spending a year and a half in
detention and completing legal procedures, she was released.\u201d
Reports suggest that on the day of the killing, following mockery from others at a funeral
ceremony regarding Nadia\u2019s release, her brother returned home and shot her directly,
then fled the scene.
It is important to note that in the laws of the Islamic Republic, a woman accused of
killing a man would not be released after only 18 months in detention, unless the
charges could not be proven. Nadia\u2019s release most likely indicates that the allegation of
murder was not substantiated\u2014otherwise, her freedom would not have been granted.
