On Thursday, January 30, 2025, a 27-year-old woman named Gonaz Rostami was shot
and killed in Mahidasht, Kermanshah, by her husband’s relatives. According to the
Rokna news website, she had gone to visit her relatives in Mahidasht, a district of
Kermanshah, when she was fatally shot by her in-laws. Several individuals involved in
the incident have been identified by Kermanshah provincial police, summoned for
interrogation, and later arrested and handed over to judicial authorities. The young
woman, whose name was not initially disclosed by the media, was eight months
pregnant, and her unborn child was also killed in the attack.
On January 25, Kani Abdollahi, a 17-year-old girl from Mashkan village in Piranshahr,
West Azerbaijan province, was stabbed multiple times to death by her father in an
“honor” killing after being accused of having a relationship with a boy.
On the same day, in another location, Sima Moradi, 35, from Choghakaboud village in
Eslamabad-e Gharb, and her two children\u20149-year-old Mahoor Gholami and 16-year-old
Zeinab Gholami were murdered by her husband using a firearm in Kermanshah.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Atefeh Zogheibi, a 17-year-old girl in Shoaybiyeh,
Shushtar, was shot multiple times and killed by her father and brother.
Both Atefeh and Kani were 17 years old, and their only “crime” was falling in love.
On January 26, 2025, a 37-year-old woman in Maragheh was murdered by her
husband.
In Iran, under the rule of a regressive regime, there is no psychological support system
in place to prevent such tragedies. The lack of family counseling, anger management
education, and conflict resolution skills, combined with the deeply ingrained belief that
women are “family honor,” are significant factors in the occurrence of domestic violence.
Within the patriarchal culture that the Islamic Republic reinforces and perpetuates,
women are regarded as the “honor” of men and their families, rather than as
independent individuals with rights and personal agency. In this mindset, men (fathers,
brothers, husbands, or other family members) are deemed responsible for controlling
women’s behavior, dress, relationships, and even their lives.
Under such a misogynistic system, between January 25 and January 30, seven women
were murdered by their fathers, husbands, and brothers, while state-affiliated media
continue to refer to these killings as mere “family disputes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
