On Friday, February 28, 2025, a 12-year-old girl named Fatima Soleimani, a resident of
Harsin in Kermanshah Province, killed herself after being pressured by her father to
marry a relative. According to a source familiar with the case, Fatima was severely
beaten and threatened with death by her father, Bahman (Farahmand) Soleimani, for
refusing the forced marriage. She ultimately ended her life by hanging herself.
Her body was transferred to the forensic department, where signs of physical abuse
were observed. Bahman Soleimani claimed that the bruises and injuries on Fatima\u2019s
body were caused by a conflict with her six-year-old brother.
The news of Fatima Soleimani, a 12-year-old girl who took her own life after being
forced into marrying a relative, once again exposes the deep and persistent wounds of
structural violence against girls. This tragedy is not a \u201cpersonal act\u201d but a systematic
killing disguised as suicide.
Violence is not limited to physical abuse\u2014it also includes threats, coercion in life-
altering decisions, forced marriage, and denial of the right to choose.
The United Nations, UNICEF, and human rights organizations consider forced marriage
a clear violation of the rights of children and women and have called for its prohibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
