On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, a young man killed his mother in the Bagh Feyz
neighborhood of Tehran. According to Tasnim News Agency, at around 9 PM the
previous night, officers from the 134th district police station in the Shahrak-e-Qods area
were on patrol when they became suspicious of a young man standing in front of a
restaurant. Upon approaching him, they noticed his hands were covered in blood. When
questioned, the young man gave contradictory statements, but eventually, he confessed
to the crime, revealing that he had killed his mother with a knife in Bagh Feyz.
Following his confession, the crime scene investigation team went to the location of the
crime and discovered the body of a middle-aged woman, who had been fatally stabbed.
During preliminary investigations, the young man admitted to killing his mother, citing
family issues as the motive for the crime. State-run media did not disclose the identities
of the perpetrator or the victim, and continue to refer to the motive as \u201cfamily issues.\u201d
The use of the vague term “family issues” is a common strategy in state media to
normalize violence against women and obscure the reality of femicide in Iran. While
honor killings are often justified under the guise of \u201chonor and pride,\u201d they are frequently
covered with general phrases like “family disputes” to avoid addressing the deeper
social and cultural roots of violence against women. The concealment of the identities of
both the perpetrator and the victim further reflects the effort to downplay the significance
of such violence in the public sphere. Transparency and addressing these issues could
foster greater societal awareness and sensitivity to such crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
