On April 2, 2025, in Estahban County, Fars Province, an 18-year-old girl was killed by
her father. According to Rokna, citing the commander of Estahban police, the 42-year-
old father, who had fled and was hiding in another location, was identified and
arrested within two hours. In initial investigations, the suspect confessed that due to
\u201cfamily disputes,\u201d he physically assaulted both his wife and daughter, an act that
ultimately led to the daughter\u2019s death.
The killing of this young woman by her father once again sounds the alarm on the
normalization of domestic violence and the continued use of vague terms like \u201cfamily
disputes\u201d to obscure it.
These clich\u00e9d phrases in the media serve to diminish the impact of the systemic
violence that women and girls experience within the family environment.
The silence of the media and the absence of effective legal protections for women and
girls against domestic violence have turned the home, supposed to be the safest place
for any human being, into one of the most dangerous places for women.
The father\u2019s confession to beating his wife and daughter, leading to his daughter\u2019s
death, exposes not only the physical violence but also the psychological and structural
violence embedded within patriarchal family systems, where men, empowered by
structural dominance, become both judge and executioner of their punishments.
The continued killing of girls by fathers or brothers, under justifications such as \u201chonor\u201d
or \u201cFamily problems\u201d is a direct consequence of the lack of sex education, the absence
of protective laws for women, and the persistence of patriarchal notions of ownership
over children, especially daughters. In the absence of preventive policies, support
services, and education in life skills and gender equality, we are witnessing the daily
reproduction of tragedies that could have been prevented.
Lawmakers, media, and social activists must stop treating these cases as \u201cprivate
matters\u201d and instead recognize them as a widespread structural social crisis requiring
urgent and fundamental intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
