Criminal Investigation Police of Maragheh\u2014a city in East Azerbaijan

admitted to killing his 32-year-old wife, citing \u201cfamily disputes\u201d as his motive.
Investigations by criminal detectives revealed that the 36-year-old man had ongoing
issues with his wife and killed her by taking her to his workplace (a concrete block
factory) and strangling her with a headscarf. The news agency ISNA, which reported
this case, did not disclose the identities of either the perpetrator or the victim.
This murder is an example of domestic violence. What is often labeled as \u201cfamily
disputes\u201d frequently stems from unjust control imposed on women\u2014control that is
deeply influenced by the Islamic Republic\u2019s harmful teachings. Policies and educational
narratives that promote controlling and restrictive behavior toward women can lay the
groundwork for deeper familial problems. While the accused claimed his motive was
merely a family dispute, deeper analysis reveals that structural and societal
issues\u2014especially harmful perceptions of women\u2019s roles in the family\u2014are critical
