On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Tahereh Khodami was killed by her son with a hunting
rifle on Saeb Street in Sirjan, located in the southwest of Kerman Province. According to
initial reports, the son attempted suicide following the killing. At the time of this report,
no further details about the incident are available.
Like many similar cases, this killing reflects a profound crisis in family dynamics, the
absence of social and psychological education, and more importantly, the lack of
support systems to prevent domestic violence. Femicide, even when committed by the
closest family members, is a reflection of the deeply rooted culture of violence and the
devaluation of women\u2019s lives under the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Islamic Republic, through both its lack of protective policies and the enforcement of
discriminatory laws, bears direct and indirect responsibility for such tragedies. Silence in
the face of domestic violence, and the lack of media and judicial follow-up, creates a
dangerous environment for the repetition of these crimes.
