As the wave of domestic violence continues across Iran, on April 23, 2025, a young
woman in Golestan, the central city of Baharestan County in Tehran province, was killed
by her ex-husband in a knife attack. According to official media, the motive behind the
killing was labeled as \u201cfamily disputes\u201d\u2014a familiar and reductive phrase that once again
avoids addressing the deeper roots of such tragedies.
Reports indicate that the killer entered the sewing workshop where his ex-wife worked,
stabbed her multiple times, and also injured the workshop owner. After committing the
killing, the man reportedly harmed himself and was taken to Imam Hossein Hospital
along with the injured workshop owner. He is currently in police custody. As of now,
neither the victim\u2019s nor the perpetrator\u2019s name has been disclosed by official sources.
This incident once again exposes the broken system for addressing domestic violence
in Iran\u2014where the killing of women is routinely downplayed under the vague label of
\u201cfamily disputes,\u201d and no serious protective policies exist for women at risk. The
continued withholding of victims’ identities contributes to a process of erasing these
women from public consciousness, ultimately weakening society\u2019s sense of
responsibility and accountability.
As this pattern repeats with alarming familiarity, the lack of adequate protective laws
continues to leave victims of domestic violence defenseless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
