She was murdered in an honor killing by family members. She was deemed to have brought shame on the family by moving out of the family home to live independently. Dakhaz Atroshi, Pela\u2019s uncle told her that sleeping away from home for just one night would deserve death. Dakhaz and Rezkar Atroshi, another uncle, were convicted of Pela\u2019s murder in Sweden.
