On Monday, April 9th, 2024, a 47-year-old man visited the Robat Karim police station
and reported that he had killed his wife and two sons.
The newspaper Iran reported on the murder: at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 9, a man
entered the Robat Karim police station with a stunned and calm face and made the
shocking statement: “I killed my wife and two sons.”
Iran continued in its report: “Witnesses in this investigation claimed they heard the
sound of gunfire and immediately saw the father of the family coming out of the house,
stating that he had killed his wife and two sons aged 9 and 17, and then left the crime
scene.” After confirming the deaths of the 37-year-old woman and her two sons, the
judge ordered all three bodies to be taken to the forensic office. The initial examination
by a doctor at the crime scene indicated that all three victims died as a result of gunshot
wounds.
In the interrogation, the perpetrator cited “his wife’s discordancy” as the motive for the
horrific crime. He stated: “My wife was being uncooperative, and due to the differences
that we had, I decided to kill her and our two sons. The differences were so great that I
couldn’t take it anymore, and I decided to end their lives forever and then turn myself in
to the police.”
According to the report from Iran, Colonel Savaripur, the head of Alborz Province’s
criminal investigation police, said: “The investigation is ongoing. The perpetrator has
made statements that we need to wait for test results from the coroner’s office.”
This sentence contains ambiguity, and the first question that comes to the reader’s mind
is: What “issues” did the perpetrator raise that the test results must verify?
One of the factors in “honor killings” is the suspicion of the male family members,
especially husbands. Often, the woman is accused of having a relationship with another
man. Even when they have children together, the husband may accuse the wife of
infidelity and doubt the child’s paternity.
The killer also stated that he and his wife had been married for 23 years, indicating that
he married her when she was just 14 years old, making her a victim of child marriage.
According to the killer, his wife was a teacher, which suggests that she was able to
pursue education and become a teacher.
When asked how he feels after committing three murders, the killer responded: “I don’t
feel anything special. I’m relieved of this burden and no longer have to see them.”
Discriminatory laws against women make it difficult for them to request a divorce.
