On April 17th, 2024, a 20-year-old girl named Firouz in the city of Erbil was killed by her
brother, father, and uncle while she was asleep.
Firouz had fallen from a building in Erbil late last year, and two TikTok activists were
arrested in connection with this incident. According to reports, prior to the fall, Firouz
had been sexually assaulted by these two individuals, and her father had threatened to
kill her if the assaulters were released.
This comes as Firouz’s parents were separated, and her custody had been with her
mother in the last eight years. Firouz’s mother had remarried. However, it is said that the
assailants were released with the consent of Firouz’s maternal and paternal
grandparents. During this time, Firouz had been threatened both by her sexual
assailants and by her own family. According to a knowledgeable source, Firouz’s mother
