Iran – Urmia: Maryam Atmani-killed by her husband,September 2020
Maryam Atmani from Zango village of Salmas city in Urmia, a mother of 2 children, was set on fire by her husband after being beaten. She died at the hospital from severe burns. After transferring Maryam to the hospital and before her death, she said “when my husband poured oil on me, he also threw my one-year-old child on me so that everyone would think that I had burned myself”. The motive for the honor killing was cited as suspicion of adultery.
