Woman Was Killed by Her Husband in Miandoab

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, a woman named Samira Kashian from Miandoab, a city in
the southern part of West Azerbaijan province in northwest Iran, was killed by her
husband with a sharp weapon. The suspect has not disclosed his motive for killing his
young wife.
Samira Kashian (Kamian), 25 years old and mother of two young children, was killed by
her husband with multiple stab wounds. West Azerbaijan is one of the regions where
the killing of women, especially “honor killings,” is extremely concerning. In the spring of
2024 alone, more than 50 murders of women, mostly “honor killings,” were documented
by the Stop honor Killings Campaign. However, government-affiliated media often refer
to these incidents as “family killings” to avoid criticism of misogynistic laws that support
“honor killings,” such as Articles 630, 612, and 301 of the Islamic Penal Code.
