On January 26, 2025, a 37-year-old woman was killed by her husband in Maragheh
after being repeatedly stabbed with a knife.
According to Borna News, Tohid Farsi, the police chief of Maragheh, confirmed the
incident and stated: “The man killed his wife with a knife due to ‘family disputes’.”
The terms “family dispute” and “family killing” are frequently used by state-affiliated
media and officials in an attempt to deflect responsibility from the government for these
recurring acts of violence.
The 43-year-old suspect fled the scene after committing the murder, but was arrested
within four hours in a nearby city. During initial interrogations, he confessed to killing his
wife, citing family-related tensions as the motive.
