The Killing of Mohaddese Basiri by her Husband in Media Blackout

According to the news received by one of the members of the Stop honor Killings Campaign, on March 8th, 2022, the International Women’s Day, Mohaddese Basiri, a 20-year-old woman and mother of a 2-year-old girl, who wanted the divorce, was killed by her husband in Fariman city in Khorasan Razavi province. Mohaddese’s body remained in forensic for two days and then was buried quietly and silently. The funeral announcement reads “Died”. However, according to this informed source, Mohaddese was killed. Khorasan Razavi province is one of the provinces where the number of “honor” killings is shocking. According to a field study by Rezvan Moghadam on 1220 cases of honor killings in the Stop honor Killings Campaign, 90 of these cases have occurred in Khorasan Razavi province. Obviously, the number of such killings is more than what is documented in this study, because basically, many honor killings are not echoed or reported in the media, or reported as deaths or suicides as reported for this case.
