Husband Killed Wife and Mother-in-Law with a Firearm in Sib and Suran County

Stop honor Killings Campaign reports: On Saturday, August 10, 2024, in Sib and Suran
County, located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, a man killed his wife, Sharafnaz
Khaki Zehi, and her mother, Zoleikha Pourmohammadi-Nasab, from the village of Chah
Karim Bakhsh, also known as Chah Mashki, by shooting them.
A source familiar with the situation told the Stop honor Killings Campaign about the
incident: “Zoleikha and her husband had serious disagreements. A few years ago,
Zoleikha’s husband had killed her father during a dispute by shooting him, and after that
incident, Sharafnaz Khaki Zehi lived with her mother. Zoleikha wanted a divorce and
said she could not live under the same roof with her father’s killer, but her husband
absolutely refused to grant the divorce. Here, men have the final say. If a man wants to
divorce his wife, he doesn’t even need to go to court or follow legal procedures. The
man can simply say ‘I divorce you’ three times, and it’s considered done. Meanwhile,
women must overcome enormous obstacles to separate or, like Zoleikha, face death in
their youth.”
The informed source added: “On the day of the incident, the killer went to his mother-in-
law’s house and threatened them with a gun, demanding that his wife return home
immediately, or he would kill her. When his demand was refused, he shot and killed both
Zoleikha and her mother.”
