23-Year-Old Woman Killed by Her Father in Kermanshah for honor
Motive

On Monday, February 17, 2025, a 23-year-old woman named Seyedeh Donya Hosseini,
from the village of Beryakhani in the Dalahu district and residing in the Dolatabad
neighborhood of Kermanshah, was killed by her father, Seyed Yadollah Hosseini, who
repeatedly stabbed her.
According to an informed source, Donya Hosseini had been divorced two months earlier
by her husband due to allegations of a “relationship with another man.” After the
divorce, she returned to her father’s house, where her father killed her with a knife,
driven by an honor-based motive.
However, government-affiliated media, without addressing the true reasons behind this
honor killing, once again used the vague term “family disputes.” The use of “family
issues” by state-controlled media seems to be an attempt to simplify the issue and
overlook the deeper and structural violence against women.
The use of the ambiguous term “family issues” raises important questions about why
women, as the weaker members in familial relationships, are often victims of violence. It
also calls into question the role of patriarchal attitudes and improper cultural education
in perpetuating such violence. Furthermore, the failure to address the role and
responsibility of government institutions in preventing or enabling these events reflects
the lack of legal and social support for women.
The Islamic Republic’s laws not only fail to protect women from honor-related killings but
also, according to these laws, a father is not subject to punishment for killing his own
children.
Ultimately, these tragedies serve as a warning to reconsider policies and support
programs, urging a deeper investigation into the root causes of gender-based violence.
Instead of simplifying these issues by labeling them as “family disputes,” officials must
address and tackle the underlying patriarchal structures and actively support women’s
rights.
