Rezvan Moghaddam : On May 27, 2025, the body of a 60-year-old woman was discovered in the bathroom of
her private residence in the Molla Sadra district of Tehran. She had been brutally
stabbed multiple times. According to reports, the woman had recently undergone
surgery for breast cancer and was in recovery when the killing occurred.
As reported by Rokna News Agency, the woman’s death was reported to the police by a
friend. The friend had visited the home after receiving worried calls from the woman’s
children, who were unable to reach their mother. Upon entering, she found the lifeless
body in the bathroom. The victim’s identity has not yet been made public, and no
information about suspects or a possible motive has been released. While media outlets
are reporting cautiously, what remains undeniable is that this brutal killing occurred in a
place meant to provide peace and healing the victim’s own home.
This killing highlights the urgent need to investigate and clarify cases that may involve
femicide. Even when the motive or perpetrator is not immediately known, such incidents
must be understood within the broader context of structural violence against women.
Older women, especially those in vulnerable states such as illness or isolation, face an
increased risk of both visible and hidden forms of violence.
The lack of clear information, limited media follow-up, and neglect of the social
dimensions of such crimes hinder our understanding of the true depth of this tragedy.
Authorities must act decisively to uncover the full scope of this crime, and media outlets
must break the cycle of silence or vague reporting. This woman’s death must not
become just another vague statistic. We must ask: Why and how did a home, a
bathroom, and solitude become the setting for the killing of a 60-year-old woman?
