42-Year-Old Woman Killed by Husband in Golpayegan

On March 18, 2025, in the city of Golpayegan, a district in Isfahan Province, a 42-year-
old woman—whose identity has not been disclosed by state-affiliated media—was killed
by her husband using a bladed weapon. As is typically the case in such media reports,
the motive was described as “family disputes.” The victim was a mother of two children.
According to Mehr News Agency, the suspect has been arrested and confessed to the
crime during initial investigations. Official reports often fail to address the social, cultural,
and legal contexts behind such murders.
Femicide in Iran—especially in the form of so-called “honor killings”—is the result of a
combination of patriarchal laws, cultural norms, and a lack of sufficient protections for
women at risk. In such circumstances, men who commit acts of violence often benefit
from reduced sentences, which is one of the contributing factors to the rise in these
crimes.
