Pakistan: Qandeel Baloch, 26-killed by her brother-July 15, 2016
Qandeel Baloch was strangled to death by her brother over honor in Muzaffarabad’s Green Town area for posting her pictures and videos on social media. Baloch, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem, had become famous through her self-promotion and selfies posted on social media. She had tens of thousands of followers who praised her forthright attitude. As she became popular, she was paid to promote products on her social media accounts and appeared in music videos. Baloch was found dead in her bed. Her brother Waseem said he drugged and then strangled her “for dishonoring” the family name.
