England- Warrington: Shafilea Ahmed, 17-killed by her parents-September 11, 2003

Shafilea Ahmed was suffocated to death in Warrington, England on 11 September 2003. Like so many girls of her age, Shafilea had ambitions to be independent from her parents, go to university and forge a successful career. In the lead-up to her killing, she was the victim of extreme violence at her parents’ hands as she resisted their attempts to control her.
