Iran- Gilan: Romina Ashrafi, 14-killed by her father-June 1, 2020
Romina lived in a village in northern Iran, in the city of Talesh in Gilan. Romina’s father killed her with a sickle while she was sleeping. Romina’s father, Reza Ashrafi, told the court that he killed his daughter for “honor” reasons because she had eloped with a boy. Romina’s father was sentenced to nine years in prison. This sentence was issued under public pressure and is quite rare as often perpetrators of honor killings go unpunished.
