Negin Darvishi, the Victim of a Child Marriage

Negin Darvishi, 24, with a 3-year-old child, was killed by her husband in the Golzar area of ​​Shushtar, a city in Khuzestan province, on Thursday, December 30th, 2022. According to an informed source, Negin had return to her family’s home several times due to a disagreement and domestic violence and was seeking a divorce. Negin was returned to her husband’s house on the advice and insistence of the “tribal elders”.

After Negin had returned her home, her husband shot her in the mouth and killed her.  The husband also committed suicide after the incident.

Negin, the victim of child marriage and domestic violence, was forced to marry by her family when she was less than 18 years old and was subjected to domestic violence by her husband for many years.

Every day, more than one woman in Iran is killed by their relatives, who are often the husbands. The spread of anti-women culture, the sense of ownership over women’s bodies and souls, and the existence of discriminatory laws against women are among the main causes of honor killings.
