Another woman was killed in the Name of honor on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021.

Many women die in protection of honor and zeal. The anti-women tradition considers women as part of a man’s property. A woman does not have the right to choose or divorce because the reputation of a family is tarnished. In honor killing, whole family is involved and the man is not retaliated because he owns the wife, that means the killer has no plaintiff.

What is this “honor” that is so powerful that by relying on it, the father kills the child and the man kills the wife? “Honor” is a mediaeval concept derived from a patriarchal system that makes possession of another human body natural. “Honor” means zeal, honor and pride. The thought that considers itself the owner of the woman and its honor, sees the woman as a commodity. A commodity that must be cared for, that is, it must be zealous. It is in this culture that gender insults or so-called “honor”, are used to refer to one’s wife, sister, mother, and other female members of the male family. It is in this culture that men’s sensitivity to a woman’s body and behavior, and even to a woman’s feelings, is all related to the man and his zeal. But at the

same time, he does not forget that legal system allows a man to have four simultaneous marriages!

This culture defines male sensitivity as “zeal” and female sensitivity as jealousy. But despite this humiliation and repression, the struggle for gender equality will continue until this human right is accepted.
