22-Year-Old Woman Killed by Her Husband in Zanjan

On August 7, 2024, the head of the Zanjan Provincial Police Department’s Criminal
Investigation Unit reported the murder of a 22-year-old woman by her husband. Police
field investigations at the victim’s residence revealed that after an argument and a
physical altercation with her husband, the victim was severely injured and subsequently
taken to the hospital. However, the severity and number of stab wounds were so
extensive that medical interventions were unsuccessful, and the 22-year-old woman,
whose name has not been disclosed in national media, died from her injuries.
During the police investigation, the victim’s husband initially denied any conflict with his
wife. However, faced with the evidence, he eventually confessed, admitting that after a
fight and argument with his wife, he had stabbed her multiple times and then taken her
to the hospital. The killer cited “family disputes” as his motive.
The terms “family disputes” and “family murders” are frequently used by the police,
government-affiliated media, and officials. These vague and undefined terms are
employed to obscure the nature of “honor killings” and to avoid scrutiny of the laws and
educational practices that support such killings.
