Wife Was Strangled with Balloon String

In May 2024, a young man named Davood reported his wife, Leila, missing to Tehran’s
Criminal Investigation Police. He explained, “My wife and I have been married for years
and have two children. Yesterday, I left the house with the kids, and when we returned,
Leila was gone. I assumed she had gone out for shopping, but hours passed, and she
didn’t come back. Later, her phone was turned off, and I became worried.”
The police questioned Leila’s relatives, and in preliminary inquiries, her mother and
sister mentioned ongoing marital tensions. They recounted that the night before Leila’s
disappearance, during one of their children’s birthday parties, they had witnessed
arguments between the couple. Under police interrogation, Davood eventually admitted
the truth.
Davood confessed: “My wife and I had been having issues for a long time. The night
before, during our child’s birthday party, we argued several times in front of guests over
hosting arrangements. The next day, when the kids went to school, we got into another
fight. In a moment of anger, I wrapped a balloon string around her neck. When I came to
my senses, she was already dead. Panicking and knowing the kids would be home from
school in a few hours, I hid her body under their bed and told them she had left the
house in anger.”
For the next two days, while Leila’s body was hidden under the bed, Davood’s children
slept on the same bed, crying for their mother. On the third day, after they left for school,
he borrowed a friend’s car, wrapped her body in a blanket, placed it in the trunk, and
took it to an area in eastern Tehran to bury it. Following his confession, Davood was
detained and awaits trial.
