The Bitter Tragedy of Velenjak: A Shadow That Consumed a Home

By Rezvan Moghadam

At noon on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, a horrifying tragedy unfolded on one of the
quiet streets of Velenjak, leaving even the coldest of hearts stunned into silence.
Around 12:45 PM, the sound of gunfire shattered the calm of Sasan Street, sending
residents into panic. Calls to the police emergency line (110) led officers to a house now
enveloped in deadly silence.
Inside, a 42-year-old man, a lawyer by profession, had ended a deadly nightmare with a
gun in hand. First, he shot his 40-year-old wife, then their 12-year-old son. Both died
from the gunshot wounds. Finally, the man turned the weapon on himself, ending his
life.
Amid this harrowing moment, a 14-year-old girl—the couple’s other child—displayed
extraordinary courage beyond her years. She fled the scene, seeking refuge in a
neighbor’s home, becoming the sole survivor of this devastating tragedy.
Currently, a team of homicide detectives, investigators, and police officers are working
to uncover the motive behind this heinous act. The investigation is ongoing, while a
shocked and grief-stricken community waits for answers that may never truly heal
broken hearts. This incident occurred just days after another similar tragedy. On
Sunday, November 10, 2024, Mansooreh Ghadiri Javid, a journalist for IRNA, was killed
by her husband, who also held a law license.
These events represent more than isolated incidents; they are a societal tragedy, a
stark warning to revisit the deep-seated social, psychological, and cultural wounds that
underlie such violence.
