Triple Women Killing with a Handgun
On February 2, 2025, a man in the city of Jorqan, located in Hamadan Province, shot
and killed his wife, his sister-in-law, and his mother-in-law using a handgun.
According to a report by Hamshahri Online, on the evening of Sunday, February 2, the
husband’s brother-in-law and the brother-in-law’s wife were also injured in the incident.
Abbas Najafi, the prosecutor of Hamadan, has stated that the brother-in-law’s condition
remains critical.
The stated motive behind the triple killing was “family disputes.” After committing the
murders, the perpetrator attempted suicide.
Access to firearms is one of the critical factors in the escalation of domestic violence.
This tragedy highlights how the killer was able to obtain a handgun, Showing the
weakness of gun control laws. The use of the vague term “family disputes” by judicial
authorities and state-controlled media is a common tactic to normalize and downplay
femicide.
Many women experiencing domestic violence are unable to leave due to a lack of legal
protections, the absence of safe shelters, and fear of social and economic
consequences. Official media of the Islamic Republic often use terms such as “family
conflict” or “domestic quarrel” to obscure the broader social and structural issues that
lead to such killings—specifically, the patriarchal notion of ownership over women. In
this mindset, men believe they have the right to punish women in times of conflict or
dissatisfaction.
