England – Manchester: Rania Allayed, 25-murdered by her husband,June 2013
Rania Allayed, a mother of three children was killed by her husband Ahmed Al-Khatib for becoming ‘too westernized’. Rania was of Palestinian descent and met Ahmed Al-Khatib in refugee camps in Syria and married him at age 15. After moving to England, Al-Khatib became increasingly jealous and controlling, and subjected Allayed to years of domestic and sexual violence. Rania was trying to achieve independence from her husband when he killed her.
