The Sense of Ownership, Forced Marriage, and Child Marriage Caused a Catastrophe

On Thursday, April 21st, 2022, a 21-year-old man shot and killed his 16-year-old fiancé in Yasuj because she had changed her mind on marrying him. He committed suicide after killing her fiancé.

According to HRANA, quoting Rokna, a 21-year-old man in Yasuj killed his 16-year-old fiancé and then committed suicide around 11 PM on Thursday, April 21st, 2022.

According to the report, Shiva and Musa were cousins. Some time ago, the family of 21-year-old Musa proposed to Shiva and an engagement ceremony was held.

Musa and Shiva’s uncle about this incident said: “Some time ago, their engagement party was held, but some time later, Shiva said that she was not ready to start this life. Musa was angry with Shiva’s decision and we were watching him to not make a dangerous decision.”

“Musa kept saying that I have rented a house, and there is no reason for us to delay the start our life together. Because of this, there was a disagreement and argument between them. Until Thursday night, Musa went to Shiva’s house with a weapon that he had already prepared, first killing Shiva and then shooting himself.”

This is not the first time that a child has fallen victim to a family’s wrong decision, forced marriage and child marriage. After a tough effort and fight by women and children’s rights activists, the Islamic Republic’s laws have changed the age of marriage for girls from 9 years old to 13 years and for boys to 15 years old. However, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Children, people under the age of 18 are considered children.
